Basketball, a sport of two teams comprising five players in each team. The team tries to score points on one another by throwing a ball through a hoop (known as basket) under an organized rules. The team having more points at the end of the game wins. 

If the shot is of regular jump inside the arch, it is worth of two points. Three points are awarded if the jump shot is beyond the arch and one point for a free throw. Within the court the ball can be advanced by bouncing it or passing it between teammates.

The Indian national basketball team, also known as the Young Cagers, represents India in international basketball competitions and is controlled by Basketball Federation of India.

Since 2003, the majority of India’s national basketball players compete under the team name “Young Cagers” at the annual Asian Club Championships.

At the most recent event, the FIBA Asia Championship 2009 in Tianjin, China, India finished 13th, leaving behind Uzbekistan, Indonesiaand Sri Lanka.

On individual performances, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, Jagdeep Singh, Sambhaji Kadam and Talwinderjit Singh finished among the tournament’s top performers. 17-year old Bhriguvanshi finished in the top ten in points, steals and minutes per game, Jagdeep Singh finished in the top ten in rebounds, Kadam in assists and Talwinderjit Singh in blocks per game.
